Sega Sammy revealed that the entire Yakuza series has placed 14 million copies. The company noted that the series has been ” highly rated by foreign users, ” but believes it is still a niche series meant for a select market of players.
Therefore, the current strategy for the future is to launch the series on multiple platforms and services around the world, with the PC playing a major role.
This can be seen as early as the launch of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, released this month on Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Whether the next titles in the series will follow this path remains to be seen.
At the moment, it is not known if the games from Yakuza 3 to 5 and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will arrive on PC or Xbox platforms in the near future.
Ryu ga Gotoku Studio will broadcast a Livestream event on December 8 where he will talk about future plans for the series.
