Rare and Microsoft have released a video in which the Sea of Thieves developers discussed different aspects of the game.

We learn that over 11 million players have played the title in 2020 and that the community is roughly split between PC and Xbox platforms.

The community is also seeing consistent growth thanks to the launch on Steam and the influx of players from various parts of the world, including China and Korea.

The developers also explained that while they are proud of what has been achieved with the Arena feature, it will not be developed further and most of the focus will be on the adventure-related part of the game.

Also, instead of monthly content updates, Sea of Thieves will now have Seasons lasting three months.

Each season will begin with new content and new ways to play and continue with regular live events with ” hundreds of new rewards “, patches, Emporium updates, and Twitch Drops. Also announced is the introduction of a seasonal progression system that includes 100 Pirate Renown levels and a series of Pirate Trials.

This will allow players to unlock new rewards for their pirate and ship. A Plunder Pass will also be implemented as a premium tier, providing unique and exclusive rewards.

Season 1 will launch in January.

Sea of Thieves is currently available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
