The world of esports is incredibly popular on social media, even beating classic sports like baseball and ice hockey. Instagram has collected several data showing how the esports scene stands out as one of the very few industries that hasn’t suffered as much, relatively speaking, in the wake of the global pandemic.
Analyzing the data in detail, on Instagram the average number of followers of 30 eSport teams is around 858,067 followers, compared to baseball (819,867 followers), ice hockey (583,006 followers), and MLS (220,113 followers) teams. The most followed esports team is, of course, FaZe Clan, which claims to be the most popular esports organization in the world. Not even a very extravagant claim, especially when you consider the fact that they have amassed an impressive 8.9 million followers on Instagram.
Among the most famous teams in the NBA and the NFL, we find an average of 3,366,667 and 1,347,644 followers on Instagram respectively. But it’s also worth noting that the most followed esports team (FaZe Clan) actually has more than double the number of followers than the most followed NFL team (The New England Patriots, with 4.3 million followers).
These figures demonstrate an inevitable surge in eSports viewers that probably won’t be stopping.
